Appearance
Celosia is an objectively beautiful, young woman. Her fiery locks reach her shoulder blades naturally, and her pale skin is littered with freckles. Though her jawline is strong, it doesn't take away from the softness of most of her other features...and yet, getting caught in her gaze might rival having a knife pulled on you, as her lovely hickory eyes practically glow red hot when she's passionate. On the other end, her smile is contagious and makes those same eyes lift into rainbow arches, though it isn't often that someone is able to draw that girly giddiness out of her.
Her clothing is fairly standard for her social status, not meant to be overly flashy or overly modest. When it comes to footwear, she most often opts for comfort—even when wearing a stylish pair of heels—as she spends a lot of time on her feet. She'll usually wear solid colors or subtle patterns, but most of her attire is close-fitted or pulled away from her hands.
There are a few things that Cel has on her at all times: a ring made out of coal, a silver water droplet necklace (which can store a small amount of water) made by her late husband, and a pair of gloves which she is usually wearing any time she isn't wielding fire. When learning to use fire magic, she burned herself quite often. The worst burn scar covers a large section on the outside of her right thigh and hip, and her hands have faint burn scars on them as well, which is why she wears the gloves.

Personality
Passion and balance run her life. Or...balance makes futile attempts to keep up with passion. Celosia is a wild and creative person with a sparkle in her eye at any given moment. She has a very difficult time stepping down when she's told to, especially when it's for speaking her mind. If she has a thought about some matter of importance, you'd better believe she will make it known, whether that's the wise thing to do or not. Because of this, people tend to either love or hate her, as she isn't fond of people who teeter on the fence of decisions and stances. When she starts something, when she believes in something, it's both feet in or don't bother.
Cel has never really had an issue when it came to fitting in. People seemed to naturally gravitate toward her, or they were completely repelled, which she was absolutely fine with. Of course, that didn't mean they wouldn't hear her when she voiced her ideas in society. Regardless, she is still polite and highly sophisticated in social situations. She's accepting of everyone who deserves her acceptance, but if someone punches down from their station or openly disrespects her or those she respects (which differs from those she likes), she will feign no niceties for their ego.
She's very intelligent and picks up quickly on most anything she studies, be it in magic or academia or anything in between. If she's given the directions or skills necessary to complete a task, she will do it swiftly and go even further with her own ideas. Humility is important to her, and while she isn't overly fond of people think themselves above others, she knows how to stroke the right egos to get what she wants when she wants.
Companion, Dragon, or Shift
Letcher, a large lynka with white fur. He is seven years old and exceptionally trained. Cel got him from her husband as a wedding present when he was a puppy, and he became her service animal, helping to soothe her burns when she used her magic.
History
Family
Eleanor Tolin | mother | alive
Patrick Tolin | father | alive
Krista Tolin | twin | deceased
James Ayelet | husband | deceased
For generations, the Tolin family bloodline has exclusively been made up of remarkably skilled Loom mages, primarily of the dark variety. The men and women were admired with equal measure, serving as scholars and government workers, all depending on their field of expertise.
Upon the birth of their first child—or rather, children—Eleanor and Patrick, the youngest married couple in the family, celebrated with the rest. Twins were rare, so the parents viewed it as a wonderful sign that their marriage would continue to be bountiful. Though, things quickly changed.
About a month after the birth, the older twin, Krista, came down with an extreme illness. She seized multiple times in a single day, then passed away while she slept. The heartbroken parents turned all of their attention to Celosia, the younger twin, making sure she was in perfect health and as happy as can be. Granted, the girl was a little spoiled in her upbringing, but she was an only child after her sibling died.
A healthy Human child, Cel was given a new type of magic every time she attended Determination Day with her parents. She never progressed with her magic, no matter how she practiced, and it was a great source of frustration for the girl...especially with the confusion from her parents. She was a quick study and dedicated to her ability, so her inability to master magic was infuriating for her quick fuse.
While the wheel of her magic types continued to turn throughout her childhood, she eventually turned her attention to things that felt more within her control. She was taught to play the flute and vielle, to sing, to paint and sketch. Her education was incredibly important as well. She was very dedicated to her studies, having private tutors attend even outside normal schooling time to deliver more in-depth lessons on humanities and politics.
When she was twelve years old, her father forced her to go with him to the blacksmith. Celosia watched the blades coming out of the fire and being molded into the proper shape. Then, she watched the boy—who couldn't have been older than thirteen—magically reignite the dying fire. Slipping away from her father, she quietly watched the boy, curious about this new type of magic. He saw her watching and smiled, showing off a bit with a few simple tricks. He showed her the bracelet he wore that allowed him to control fire, even letting her try it on. The magic came to her like breathing.
Celosia and James became fast friends. As she played more and more with his fire bracelet, she found that the Loom no longer granted her magic of her own on Determination Day. She also found that, surprisingly, she didn't miss it. When they were adults, the pair married in a small, intimate ceremony, and James presented her with a fire-wielding ring made from a piece of coal from his forge.
Cel was passionately outspoken and vocal in the political scene, while James was able to open another blacksmith shop, as well as begin a teaching career in swordsmanship. Their life together was prosperous, though unfortunately, it was cut very short. In a tragic accident, water got into the coals at one of the forges, causing a steam explosion. It claimed the lives of everyone working that day, including James.
Depression snuffed Cel's fire for a long time, but she began slowly piecing herself back together after the heartbreak, doing more and more research into safety regulations. She became fixated for a time on potentially becoming an assistant to or even replacing the Health and Safety Councilor, but it was a grief-fueled project that faded with time as she became more and more herself.
Law and order and the relationship with Embrathi citizens was where her true passion lied. She redirected her energy back into that, finishing her education and becoming a lawyer, entirely unafraid to take on those much more socially influential or powerful than herself. Though she has only just begun truly researching and speaking up again about her beliefs and stances, she has a lot to say, all the time in the world...and none of the fear.
