Shadow of the Shattered is a mature, literate play-by-post role-playing community set in a fractured world. Here, you’ll explore the constant tension between control and rebellion, faith and truth, survival and ruin. Our forums are designed to support deep storytelling and collaborative creativity, with dedicated spaces for roleplay threads, lore, character plotting, and out-of-character community.

Within the boundary of Embrathis, you’ll find diverse backdrops for your stories: the smoke-choked factories of the industrial ring, the glittering governance district where the Loom’s chosen walk, the sprawling farmlands that keep the city alive, the perilous wilderness beyond, and the crumbling bridge where rebels make their stand. Whether your character is a devout Loom mage, an outlaw Organic shifter, a desperate Variant, or an ordinary citizen struggling to survive, the choices you make will ripple outward into the larger world.

This guidebook is your foundation. Inside, you’ll find rules and quickstart guides to help you begin, detailed breakdowns of stat systems and mechanics, and information on quests, guilds, and site events that drive play forward. You’ll also discover entries on the regions of Embrathis and its surrounding lands, in-depth explorations of magic and culture, and a field guide to gameplay.

Beyond the in-character experience, Shadow of the Shattered offers a welcoming out-of-character space on Discord, where our community connects, supports, and encourages one another. Whether you want to craft intimate character studies, join epic site-wide plots, or simply immerse yourself in a world of medieval-industrial fantasy, every thread you weave becomes part of the greater tapestry. The Loom may promise perfection, but it is in the unraveling where true stories are found.

Shadow of the Shattered is a story-first collaborative roleplay built to give members room to chase the characters, relationships, and plots that genuinely excite them. Our systems exist to add stakes, progression, discovery, and the element of chance, not to dictate every move your character makes. You can dive deeply into quests, exploration, training, faction plots, site events, and larger mysteries, or spend your time writing quieter personal stories without ever needing to turn every thread into a mechanical encounter. There is no word-count requirement, and our priority is always meaningful collaborative writing over arbitrary length. 

Just as importantly, members can expect an inclusive, welcoming, and genuinely close-knit community built around mutual support rather than competition.  We celebrate one another’s characters, plots, art, ideas, and victories, encourage new members to jump in rather than hover at the edges, and value sincerity, enthusiasm, and kindness both in and out of character. Staff are here to help navigate lore and systems and to facilitate larger stories, but members are encouraged to plot boldly, create connections, submit ideas, and leave their own fingerprints on Embrathis. Whether you arrive wanting sprawling conspiracies, messy relationships, adventure, tragedy, found family, political intrigue, or one spectacularly ill-advised tavern night, you should be able to find both stories worth telling and people genuinely excited to tell them with you.
