What Makes Someone Deviant
ORGANIC MAGIC / DEVIANT EXPLANATION HERE.
Types
Shifters
What They Are
Shifters are humans with a special connection to animals that allows them to transform into them. In human form, they do not retain animal features or abilities, but they can transform at will.
How Shifting Works
In animal form, Shifters can speak telepathically to all humans (Shifters or not). Their telepathy reaches as far as they can see, and walls or other obstructions do not block it.
Shifter Rules
- Starting Shift: All Shifters begin with two base shifts chosen at character creation. They may be any real-world animals or any common-tier creatures from the SoS flora & fauna list. One of them must be designated as specifically not to be used in combat. This choice is permanent once approved.
- Gaining Shifts: Unlimited total shifts may be collected via natural threading or by purchasing rarer forms in the Market. Max two shifts per IC season, and you must interact with the animal in-thread (petting, riding, fighting, feeding, etc.).
- Fauna Tiers: Real-world animals count as common-tier; otherwise follow the flora/fauna tier rules in your threads.
- Stats in Animal Form: Replace all stats with the animal’s values and features. Compared to the natural animal, a Shifter is slightly larger/faster/stronger.
Legal Status
Shifting is organic magic and illegal in Embrathis. Shifters must take the Loom’s daily Treatment to suppress organic magic. OOC, if you want your Shifter to be on the Treatment and still have the shifting ability, their Loom magic has to be Beast Affinity.
Bonded & Dragons
What They Are
The Bonded share a spiritual soul-bond with dragons. Historically called “dragon riders,” the term lingers only in memory since dragons are trapped in human form.
The Bond
Bonded and their dragon partners communicate telepathically from anywhere within the city.
Draconic Manifestations
Dragon NPCs
Dragons are powerful beings trapped in human form. They cannot fly, but retain superior sight, retractable talons, and their chosen breath weapon. In public, they appear indistinguishable from humans, aside from an ineffable poise or presence.
Traits: Typically taller than average.
Lifespan: Unknown in the wild; when bonded, their long life shortens to match their partner’s mortal span.
Young: Rare. While in human form, dragons give birth to live young who are human-passing and mature at a human rate.
Bonding: Although unusual, there are instances when a dragon's or a Bonded's lifespan is cut short after bonding. In this case, the living half of the pair may bond again if the right person/dragon comes along, but nothing can ever replace the deceased partner.
